The Gulf States Plead With Their Federal Masters to Extend Red Snapper Season

The Gulf States plead with their federal masters at the Department of Commerce (DOC) to extend the red snapper season. The federal government wields unconstitutional, unchecked power that has led to DOC proclaiming that it owns the oceans and therefore can regulate the “federal waters” as it sees fit. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) manage federal waters under the supervision of the NOAA, and it was the bureaucrats at these sub-agencies who set this year’s recreational red snapper season for three days; the three-day season is what prompted the Gulf States to ask their federal masters for a longer red snapper season.

It is not the length of the red snapper season that should bother the Gulf States and the American people, it is the power that the federal government exercises over the Gulf of Mexico and its marine life that should disturb anybody who is concerned about the size and power of the federal government that extends well beyond protecting the natural rights of Americans. The immense power of the federal government has reduced the states and individuals to subjects who cannot catch fish unless the federal deity gives them permission.

The government has installed itself as the all-seeing, all-knowing god who can control everything because it asserts that it possesses infallible wisdom. The bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. who have never fished for red snapper or any other fish claim that they know everything about red snappers, including the exact number of snappers in the Gulf of Mexico. The bureaucrats’ declaration that they retain unassailable knowledge of the oceans is the reason the Gulf States have to negotiate with the DOC to extend the recreational red snapper season.

The size and scope of the federal government seem to know no bounds. The federal bureaucracy has proclaimed it owns the heavens, land, and seas, therefore, it has the authority to regulate them. A fishing season may seem like a minor issue, but it is indicative of the tyrannical machinations of the administrative state that must be stopped to restore states’ rights and individual liberty.
